The exhibition opened Jan. 30 and will be open until Feb. 25 at the Runnels Gallery in the Golden Library at ENMU.
According to Albert Calderon, the manager of the Runnels Gallery, the gallery has held a national juried art show almost every year since 1995. This year's juror is Lucy R. Lippard, an internationally-known writer and activist.
Lippard selected from over 400 entries, 32 artist and 39 artworks for the non-themed show. The show is a combination of paintings, photographs, prints, mixed media pieces, ceramics and sculptures.
"I really like the sculptures," said Hongxuan Yang, a sophomore broadcast journalism major at Eastern. "… They are amazing. I cannot believe how (much) hard work the artists did to make them."
Lippard also selected two works for best of show from photographers Alexandra Huddleston and Steven Rubin, Calderon said. Lippard also selected five works for honorable mentions. One of the honorable mentions was awarded to Matthew Gordillo, a coordinator for Upward Bound at ENMU.
"The paintings are awesome," said Yang Lin, a sophomore business administration major at Eastern. "I was so attracted by those pictures. They made me feel like I was right on the scene."
According to Calderon, Lippard's career includes performance art pieces and street theater. She has received several awards, including a 1968 Guggenheim Fellowship, two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the College Art Association's Frank Jewett Mather Award for art criticism. She also holds honorary Doctorates of Fine Arts from numerous institutions.
"I especially enjoyed the eclectic selection and the different mediums," said Calderon.
