Keynote speaker Andrea Mosby began the summit with words to the attendees about the decisions they would have to make in order to achieve their goals, and the failures they might face until they reach success.
"If we don't embrace challenge, we don't embrace change," Mosby said. "Do what you need to do but don't turn off your dreams."
The theme was "Keys to Success," where student leaders came to learn the keys to being not just a good leader, but a great leader, according to Mosby.
Mosby said at the age of 16 she became pregnant with a son, however, it did not hold her back from being the mother she had to be and achieve the goals she wanted. Mosby went on to receive a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning.
Mosby became a consultant speaker because it was something she thought she could do. It started with speaking on a panel for her younger sister who was still in high school at the time, and continued to speak with different groups across the country to present day.
Mosby was chosen by Tracy Henderson, Director of Student Activities and Organizations, and Martin Manrique, a senior, to be the keynote speaker at the summit because Henderson had attended a conference previously where she was given a chance to hear Mosby speak, and thought she was "phenomenal," Henderson said.
After Mosby's opening, students were split up into groups to attend, on rotation, workshops, called breakout sessions, on how to be a good leader.
The sessions were lead by ENMU faculty from Portales and Roswell.
Sue B. Bracksieck, a university career counselor, gave a workshop about the emergence of leadership. Her focus was on the ability for a leader to lead and promote team work, to achieve their goals.
