ENMU career counselors say there are several resources on campus to help graduates ease into the job market regardless of recent national economic woes.
Counseling and Career Services Director Susan Larsen said college graduates should not be put off by the economy.
"Stay open to different opportunities that might present themselves," she said in an e-mail. "Don't panic about finding a job. Even in this economy, there are options out there."
Larsen said that many times job seekers say they will never work at a given company, without realizing they may be passing up a great opportunity.
"Always be open to employment or school opportunities that happen your way-you never know, that missed opportunity could have turned into the career of your dreams," Larsen said.
Danette McGuire, career development coordinator for Counseling and Career Services, said she helps job seekers at all levels of job search experience.
McGuire said she can help students if they need to write a résumé from scratch, or if they already have a résumé that just needs some editing.
McGuire said she can also help students who have never been to a job interview develop the skills they will need to make a good impression.
"A lot of people have never been in a professional interview," McGuire said, "so, it can be a little intimidating." McGuire said Counseling and Career Services offers advice on everything from what to wear to an interview to how to do a proper handshake.
McGuire also said it is important for students to network, even if they are not necessarily searching for a job. Also, she said people should not be shy about handing out their résumé even to employers who are not seeking to fill a position.
