You may have been impressed by how cool Harrison Ford is in the film "Firewall". Ford's character stared at the screen without blinking, clicking the mouse with hands ceaselessly moving, attempting to thwart the efforts of hackers. Ford's efforts my make the computer oriented mind dream of being this kind of hero who can drive freely on the information highway.

Right here in the computer club of Eastern New Mexico University, there is a group of people who show their enthusiasm in computers, and help guide others to enter the world of computers.

The ENMU Computer Club is a student organization whose goal is to bring students who have an interest in computer technology together, and encourage them to network with each other as well as with professionals at ENMU. Nichole Sanchez is the president, with D. Veena Parboteeah as one of the faculty instructors.

Being a fairly new organization, the ENMUCC now is on the way to build up its membership. At present, they have 15 registered members in total with some of them being non-computer-related majors.

"We currently instruct community education courses throughout the school years. The courses are taught by members, with the guidance of the advisors," Sanchez said. "The courses that we teach are the Microsoft Series as well as Adobe Photoshop."

The community education course is considered to be a bridge to connect the university with local community residences. For this semester, the courses are held on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the University Computer Center of Eastern. There are currently seven courses that they teach in a seven week period. These non-credit courses are open to anyone in the community and campus.

As a tradition, the ENMUCC has helped the student body as a whole to discuss and solve the computer-related issues. They provided an outlet for those students who are interested in computer technology to express their ideas as well as give them the opportunity to meet students who share the same interest.
