Cross country finishes their South Central Regional Championships

Eastern New Mexico University's Cross Country team finished their journey in NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships at Abilene, Texas Saturday Nov. 8. Junior distance Richard Kogo ranked 34-place in Men 10 kilometer run to push the Eastern Men's team to the 9th rank out of 19 teams. On the woman's team, sophomore distance Nicole Reid led the Zia finish to 18th place.
The Eastern Men's team ranked 7th in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America regional poll, which placed the 3rd among five Lone Star Conference teams earning a spot on the national poll.
Kogo received best time for the Hounds at 32:54.01 in the Men's 10k run. He place 34th among 127 competitors. And freshman distance runner Jacob Lozano completed the run just behind Kogo, which registered the final time of 33:03, ranked 37 among 127 competitors. Luis Aguirre and Logan Robertson finished the 10K run in time of 33:35 and 33:54, placed in 54th and 61st.
Greyhounds concluded the championship in the 9th place, registered at the final total time of 2:47:01.85 and a 33:24.37 average time.
Amos Sang from Abiliene Christian won the Men's 10K run Saturday morning, who won the LSC championship in Canyon two weeks ago. Missouri Southern concluded the Men's 10k Run in 1st place, which has three runners in the top 10 times on Nov.7.
The Zias also showed their best effort in the Women's 6k Run. Reid closed the run in her season-best time 23:16, who placed 36 among 143 competitors. Senior distance Jerri Martin also finished in her season-best 24:43.46 placing 89 among 143 competitors.
The Zias came back to the regional championships after the last show in 2006, placing 18th. Zia's final total time in South Central Region championship for 2009 is 2:04:40.69, with an average time of 24:56.14.
Missouri Southern showed their advantage in the Women's 6k Run, Kimi Shank, Ashley Siler and Ashley Bunch all from Missouri Southern, were the top 3 finishers in the Women 6k Run.
The top three men's team of the Championship and top two women's teams will automatically qualify for NCAA Division II national meet, which will be held in Evansville, Ind. on Nov.21.
