In addition, Handlers must have completed at least 30 credit hours by the end of the summer 2010 semester." Morrow also added that selection criteria include: dedication to animal well-being and to group and time commitment; sincere desire to represent ENMU; effective animal handling skills; GPA of 2.5 or higher; ability to work well with others, as well as serve as leaders.
To apply for the Hound Handlers, applicants need to pick up an application form, which are available at the Office of University Relations in Administration building room 108. According to Morrow, "The application must be returned, with a letter of reference, by 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 30."
The job of dog handlers is not complicated but needs your elaborate care. "Hound Handlers are responsible, along with the Pre-Vet Club for Vic and Tory's care during school days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.," said Morrow. "The Handlers walk, train, run and care for Vic and Tory's needs throughout the day." What is more, each handler, according to the school Website, should spend at least one hour a day with Vic and Tory, and attends University and community events on a regular basis.
"Hound Handlers are part of a prestigious group who have the honor of caring for Vic and Tory," said Morrow. "Our mascots trust the Handlers to make wise decisions about their care." She indicated that the Handlers, above all else, are to protect and care for Vic and Tory.
Being a dog handler is a voluntary job, but the handler gains experience, according to the Website. Dog handlers will earn experience in public relations; meeting people, developing public speaking skills, and representing the University. Skills which are vital in order to succeed in job interviews and career advancement.
